Musella lasiocarpa
The golden lotus
This banana tree, revered by Buddhists, is native to the mountainous areas of Yunnan in China, growing at altitudes of up to 2,500 m. As a result of this origin, it is quite resistant to the cold, its resistance to the cold being comparable to that of the basho banana tree. It is highly structured and small in size, hence its common name of Chinese dwarf banana. Its other common name, golden lotus, was given in connection with its magnificent lotus-shaped yellow flower, which can persist for 10 to 12 months.
The flowers are followed by two to four small, hairy bananas. Its leaves are thick and wind-resistant. The upper leaf takes the form of a vertical arrowhead. An interesting feature is its elephant’s foot, which is enhanced by the reddish border at the base of the petiole.
This upright banana tree can reach 80 to 120 cm in height. Mr. DECO-Style®’s favorite… Chic and well-balanced…
