Musa basjoo

This species of banana, native to China and growing at altitudes of up to 3,000 m, is probably the most cold-hardy banana that gardeners in cold regions can grow. Mind you, this is only the heart of this northern banana plant, which can withstand temperatures between -15°C and -20°C under winter protection, such as mulch. This tropical plant can reach 1.5 m in height. Avoid planting it in strong winds to protect its foliage.
